TiPB reports the next iPhone 5, or iPhone 4S is set to launch on Friday, October 7th in the US, according to what a 'little birdie' told them:
We're still hearing that an "iPhone 4S"-style device, with improved processors and optics, is more likely than an all new design, but given the many and varied rumors, it's impossible to tell for sure. It could even be that the "iPhone 4S" is the budget iPhone Apple supposedly completed work on just before WWDC 2011 (the iPhone nano, so to speak), and the "iPhone 5″ is the new high-end model.
Why it would wait so late isn't apparent other than possibly wanting a long time to polish iOS 5 or else a surprise hardware feature. Some rumors have still put the ship date in September, such as Pegatron production plans and carrier data plan promos that have been routinely tied to iPhone launches. These have room to slip, however, and shipping in September could see Apple stockpile the iPhones until October.

Others have supported Apple waiting until October, such as a China Telecom deal that would expand Apple's Chinese distribution for the first time.

Individual components should still be the same as predicted, including the dual-core A5 processor, eight-megapixel back camera, and a Qualcomm dual-mode chipset that would let Apple serve both GSM and CDMA iPhone buyers with one phone. Many things are still up in the air, such as whether the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen, the prospect of 64GB of storage, and whether it's a conservative shape or a genuine redesign.
