Everyday Carry Item Suggestions

What do you consider the essential items you carry with you every day in your purse, brief case, or backpack? What are the things you can't imagine being without for a day much less in an emergency situation? A smartphone, lip balm, daily medication, and sunglasses may top the list for many. There are several items you should consider carrying with you daily to ensure you have what can be the most useful in an emergency.

Though the items you carry with you may vary depending on your mode of transportation and destination, the following list can be used as a basic guide for filling your day pack in most situations.

Defense & Safety
Depending on where you live and how you travel on a daily basis, safety can be a top concern. Both men and women are advised to carry a small canister of pepper spray for protection.

A high-powered LED flashlight works as both a defensive tool as well as an emergency light source. There are many LED flashlights that are small and light-weight enough to be easily carried in your bag or on your keychain.

Sunglasses and a hat are also important items to include in an everyday carry bag to protect your eyes and face from sun damage. These are especially important during the summer months.

First Aid
Adhesive bandages and antibacterial gel are not just essentials for Mom's purse. Everyone should have basic first aid items on hand. Other items like this may include gauze, surgical tape, tweezers, alcohol prep pads, sun screen, ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Many drug stores carry compact first aid kits perfect to throw in a brief case or backpack.

Lights
An easy-to-use handheld light can be a life saver. As mentioned above, a small LED flashlight can prove to be a great defensive tool as well as an essential during nighttime commuting. In addition to being available in small form factors, LED flashlights also have longer battery lives than the traditional incandescent flashlights. This makes them great every day essentials.

An LED flashlight  is not only important for emergencies; use your flashlight to make yourself more visible while walking home in the dark or to help you find dropped items in your car trunk.

Communication
Most everyone carries either a cellular phone or smartphone with them every day. Include a back-up power source for your phone or smartphone (i.e. extra battery, car charger or USB charger) in your backpack, brief case or purse to ensure you will be able recharge the battery in the event of an emergency that lasts longer than 24 hours.

Paper & Pen
Despite the digital age in which we live in, a small notebook and pen or pencil are still essential to carry with you every day. Use them to capture license plate numbers, take down directions, and share contact information.

Your every day carry item list may vary slightly from this. Perhaps you never leave the house without a multi-tool or your favorite hand cream. No matter what you consider a daily 'essential', be sure to consider the importance and value of the items outlined here.
Don't leave home without a reliable compact flashlight. You can trust the power and durability of a portable LED light from Coast Products. Review the features of a wide range of models and find one that's right for you at their website.
